Calliope Mori - I'm Greedy (Metal Remix)
If I'm gonna be totally real here, I kinda... don't know how to feel about Calli's newest song. Most of her music thus far has been alternative rap that I've vibed pretty hard with, so to see her go for a trap beat was certainly unexpected. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of this specific style -- that's not to say there isn't trap music I like (Industry Baby and Humble are two of my favorite songs), but usually those songs have a good amount of energy behind them, and this one sorta doesn't, at least not to me. That being said, Calli herself goes hard as a year-old block of cheese as far as her performance/flow is concerned, especially at the end of the first verse. It fits the beat well, I must say.
This was probably one of my more difficult remixes to write. Trying to translate a trap beat into a metal one is more challenging than it sounds. It's possible, as evidenced by Our Last Night's cover of Astronaut In The Ocean, but it's hard to preserve the spirit of the original song without repeating the same riff over and over. Consequently, this cover's mostly just original riffs. I tried going for a sound that's similar to Lamb of God's Omens, which was my most anticipated album of the year before Sinderella. I noticed a lot of similarities between this song and the track "Ditch" from that record, to the point where I almost made a mashup of the two songs. I also tried keeping it short this time around, as a refresher from the 5- to 7-minute remixes I usually make. Sometimes a shorter track can hit just as hard, y'know?
