When first starting out in the world of production, you may be tempted to oversell yourself. After all, video production is a term that encompasses many different services. Just because that is so, does not mean you have to provide all those services. When you are just starting out you may not know which services you want to provide, and that is okay. There is no need to rush and try everything out all at once. Be honest about what you can provide the easiest, and build from there. Don't overboard yourself.
The other point in this video is about building a relationship with the client. When you first begin you may have some experience from school or doing work for family and friends. But that was due to connections. How do you work with a client who doesn't know you and may not even realize what video production can do from them? You build.
A business is not going to want to work with you if you give them no reason to. You have to create trust. Start small, introduce yourself and what you do. Then suggest something you can do for them for free (if you are able to). For example, say you tell them you can make a seven second video for them to use on instagram, FB, TikTok, and Youtube shorts. After you give it to them, pitch what else you could do for their business. Maybe they take you up on that offer and you gain a client. if not, you have one more item to put in your portfolio.
Either way, now that you have built a relationship with them, you will be at the top of their minds if they ever do decide they need video marketing services.
