Instead, the universe experiences a "bounce" or a transition to a new expansion phase without reaching infinite density. Role of Dark Energy: Dark energy, a mysterious form of energy thought to be responsible for the current accelerated expansion of the universe, often plays a significant role in the cyclic universe model. It may be responsible for driving the expansion during each cycle.
