Welcome to Part 2 of our Linux Fundamentals series!
In this hands-on Linux tutorial, we'll create an Ubuntu virtual machine using VirtualBox on Windows and then learn Linux by actually working inside the terminal.
Instead of only learning Linux concepts theoretically, we'll create directories, create and read files, navigate the Linux filesystem, copy and move files, search through logs, use documentation, and build a small Linux practice environment.
What You'll Learn
How a Linux virtual machine works
How to run Ubuntu inside VirtualBox
How to open and use the Linux terminal
pwd — find your current directory
ls — list files and directories
cd — navigate through directories
/, ~, ., and .. — understand Linux paths
mkdir — create directories
touch — create files
cat, head, tail, and less — read files
cp — copy files
mv — move and rename files
rm — remove files
grep — search through files and logs
man and --help — find command documentation
Build a small Linux practice environment
Complete a Linux command challenge
Understand how these fundamentals connect to DevOps
Why This Matters
Linux is an important foundation for the DevOps journey.
In this video, we'll start with a local Ubuntu environment and practice the fundamentals step by step. Later, these concepts will connect to areas such as cloud virtual machines, SSH, applications, processes, services, logs, networking, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and other DevOps technologies.
The goal isn't to memorize every command.
The goal is to understand what you're doing, practice the commands, and learn how to find answers when you need them.
Who Is This Video For?
This video is designed for:
Linux beginners
Students
Computer Science learners
Aspiring software engineers
Cloud and DevOps beginners
Anyone who wants to learn Linux by practicing it
Part of the Linux Fundamentals Series
This is the hands-on Part 2 of our Linux Fundamentals content.
Follow the series step by step as we build our foundations for Cloud and DevOps.
Practice Along
Don't just watch the commands.
Open your own Ubuntu environment and try them yourself.
Create directories. Create files. Navigate around. Search logs. Make small mistakes and understand why they happened.
That's how Linux becomes comfortable.
