A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is used to form a very secure connection between two offices over a public Internet, through what is called a vpn tunnel. More specifically, a gateway-to-gateway vpn connection allows for two cisco routers to securely connect to each other and for a client on one end to logically appear as if they are a part of the network on the other end. This enables data to be shared more easily and securely over the Internet.
Setting must be done on both cisco routers to enable a gateway-to-gateway VPN.
Advanced gateway to gateway VPN setting provides the flexibility to configure optional configurations for the vpn tunnel to be more user friendly for the vpn users. The Advanced options are available for IKE with Preshared key mode. The advanced configurations should be the same on both sides of the VPN connection.
