OMAI Talks-1: Christina Scheppelmann, Seattle Opera's GD, speaks w/ international opera managers
On December 15, 2020 OMAI launched a new conversations series "OMAI Talks" with first special guest speaker Seattle Opera’s General Director Christina Scheppelmann/An edited version.
Scheppelmann spoke about the differences of managing an US opera company as compared to a major European opera house and reactions to the urgently needed changes in the society such as the #blacklivesmatter movement. She addressed the challenges due to the pandemic, her experiences of helping to grow an opera business in “emerging territories” based on her experiences at the Persian Gulf and general considerations on the relationship between agents and a general director.
OMAI's president Mitchell Piper introduced her to the virtual public of opera managers; Markus Laska and Sarah Stephens from the Communications Committee guided the participants through the conversation and the many interesting questions brought up.
