When the first layer of the filament doesn't stick to the building bed, the filament will naturally "blob" around the nozzle and grow along with the ongoing print job. Since the gap between the nozzle tip and building bed is usually very small, the filament will have to ooze around the heating element and eventually swallow the whole print header.
This video firstly shows the process of removing and fixing the "blob of death" from a Creality K1 Max 3d printer. The blob destroyed the heating element's case and completely swallowed the heating element, making the repair almost impossible. Fortunately, the replacement kits are available for purchase. The rest of the video shows the process of replacing the broken parts with the new ones and successfully restored the 3d printer.
