Duke Zhou 周公: the founder of Chinese civilisation
周公 or Duke Zhou was regarded as the founder of Chinese civilisation. He is supposed to have devised the government system consists of the numbers of officials, their responsibilities and duties, and the power hierarchy where the king and his officials are situated, as well as designed the ritual and musical ceremonies to be performed at different levels of this hierarchical structure in the Zhou Kingdom. Of course, he also devised the marriage institution. For many Chinese, the commencing of a marriage is often referred as 行周公之礼 or to perform Duke Zhou's ritual ceremony!
