The Hottest Year On Record
This year is on track to be the warmest on record after the previous high set in 2023, according to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.
2024 has seen each month surpass its temperature record for the time of year, spawned the two hottest days on record and contributed to the intensification of hurricanes, heatwaves, and wildfires across the world – all signs that it will likely go down as the hottest year on record.
Greenhouse gas emissions, largely from burning fossil fuels, continue heating up the planet. The devastating effects of climate change will continue until global greenhouse gas emissions reach net zero.
