Female-Related Causes
1. Ovulation-Related Problems

One of the immature eggs in the ovaries develops during the month. When it reaches a certain size, it ruptures, and the egg is released from the ovary (ovulation). In women who menstruate every 28 days, ovulation occurs approximately on day 13-14.

Absence of ovulation (anovulation) is the most significant cause of menstrual irregularities and accounts for 5-25% of infertility cases. Ovulation also depends on a woman's balanced hormone production.

2. Fallopian Tube Problems

The thin tubes located between the uterus and the ovaries are called the Fallopian tubes. For the egg released from the ovaries to meet the male reproductive cell (sperm), the tubes must be open and functional.

Obstruction, adhesions, swelling, and fluid accumulation in the tubes can occur due to previous female genital tract infections, tuberculosis, endometriosis, abdominal surgeries, and polyps. These prevent a woman from conceiving normally. Thirty-five percent of infertility cases stem from problems with the fallopian tubes.

3. Uterine Problems

The fertilized egg (embryo) implants in the uterus and continues its development there. Adhesions within the uterus, space-occupying growths such as fibroids and polyps, and previous uterine lining infections can prevent the embryo from implanting. This is one of the problems that can cause infertility and can be a cause.

4. Cervical Problems

Secretions in the cervix that immobilize or kill sperm (antisperm antibodies) can, although rarely, cause infertility. These secretions can also be found on the surface of sperm and in semen. These secretions can be detected in cervical fluid, sperm, and blood samples of couples. However, with the successful use of insemination and in vitro fertilization, they have become less important today.
