Do you speak Swiss? (1995)
While French-speaking Swiss are distinct from their French neighbors, they are marked by their accent and linguistic peculiarities, which they readily embrace, as seen in comedians Roland Vouilloz and Thierry Romanens imagining them spoken by two Parisians or schoolchildren from the Jura region listing objects using both their regional and French names.
In the program "Viva," broadcast on November 5, 1995, on TSR (Télévision Suisse Romande), linguists Marinette Matthey and Pascal Singy decoded this regional dialect, championed by comedians Cuche, Barbezat, and Bob Barbey, and writers Daniel de Roulet and Hugues Richard, but criticized by teenagers. In Paris, Claude Kannas, director of the "French Language" department at Larousse publishers, believes that regional words have their own legitimacy.
