Ofc Hrs/AMA - #CX, #UX, Axure, and other questions answered live!

Today's questions were (in order):

Hello everyone! My question is: how do I respond to stakeholders who say, "Your qualitative research is not statistically significant" Often time my response is that qualitative research is not aimed at producing statistically significant results. Rather, it seeks to provide a deep understanding of the behaviors, tasks, unmet needs, motivations, etc. And then their question is: "How can we be sure that it applies to our entire customer base?" Are we triangulating it with quantitative research? Thank you for the answer.

Hi Debbie, Dr. Nick, can you give some general guidance on what would be good research questions vs bad? Examples I get at work: “should we make the this black&white?” And I’m asked to do research.

can you advise on making and explaining ux presentations? it sometimes gets too overwhelming :/

Debbie Levitt, MBA Dr Nick Fine Can we gather folks (Limited numbers) around the globe to set authentic UX practices and guidelines under a body of an association or entity to recognise the right way of doing and direct the industry in the right manner to take the UX for the next generation?

Hey Debbie and Nick, I'm about to start a new UX researcher role in public sector (in the UK). Do you have any advice about how I can advocate for budget for 1:1 mentoring and further training?

Hey Debbie and Nick, I've been in the UX field for about 8yrs (and now manage a team). I don't have any formal education (certifications, books and such only) do you recommend a degree, if not what? :)

I have a ux design resume and portfolio. However, my visual design skills need a lot of improvement in terms of making it more modern day looking. My questions is should I apply for the UX research job for the time being? I enjoy doing research more than the design.

We are in a cycle where we have our designer finish a high-fidelity mockup of a new feature/module and then we figure out what we want to test, then build a clickable prototype and go to usertestingDOTcom. I feel like we're out of order but also feel pressure not to break the rhythm. We're getting decent insights but I'm wondering what red flags come to mind for you.

How do you decide which battles to pick as a UXer? Without sounding adversarial, this Q is about giving in for the longer relationship building. But you also want to set good UX practices. I've accidentally annoyed my team at times, by stating the need for testing etc and I can now see the phrasing and ask could have been more team centric.

Hello everyone! this is my first time here and I have a question: what do you do when you have a language barrier between you and your customers?

My follow up question is do you need to understand the words they are saying? Or is there a trick in choosing a different method of engagement if you don't have a native speaker of the language?

I have opposite views regarding this question. When, in your opinion, do you have researchers in design and design decision meetings?

Where do you find UX researcher mentors??

Dear presenters, I’m thinking about a more systematic approach to user interview analysis — something that’ll help standardize UXR at my team and amongst others at our company. Any suggestions?

What best tools do u recommend that are best for making those user testing?

We have recently adopted SDUI (server-driven user interface) as a way to construct our products at my company (fintech). At the moment, our components are not very advanced and lack key features such as auto-save and offline capability, which will negatively impact the UX if we were to go live. We intend to improve these components, but we don't have a strategy on the HOW... How can the UX/UXR team contribute to the development and improvement of SDUI? It seems to be primarily Engineering and PM driven here.

How do you know you're growing as a UX'er? How can someone calibrate their growth over time - should they be meeting mentors? How do you identify growth areas when there is so much you can learn? 🙂

I always feel very robotic in interviews/usability tests, trying to be conscious of my body language when facilitating and not influencing people. I'm friendly and welcoming at the start of the call but the moment we start the questions, I try to go neutral. How necessary is this? What are some things to be aware of when it comes to body language and facilitation?
