Let's look at expanding storage on a Synology NAS, specifically configuring it as a single disk volume.

Many people buy only one disk drive when they purchase a NAS because, in addition to the NAS price, they also need to factor in the cost of the hard drives, leaving them without the budget for more.

Over time, they fill up that initial disk and are forced to buy another to expand the NAS's capacity, or they want to protect their data by configuring a RAID array.

In today's video, we'll look at the first scenario and configure this second disk as an individual disk, completely separate from the first. We'll create a new volume. This type of configuration is called a "single disk."

Later, in another video, we'll see the second scenario: configuring the new disk as a mirror of the first, creating a RAID 0 array within the same volume.

Here's the video showing how to expand storage on a Synology NAS by creating a new volume and configuring a single disk.
