Adobe Premiere Elements 2020 - stabilisation effect demonstration
A video clip of a train crossing the iconic Barmouth Bridge in Wales. It was recorded over ten years ago when the video camera I was using had poor image stabilisation and jerky controls when zooming in and and out.
YouTube does a decent job of stabilising uploaded videos, but you might not always want them uploaded, so perhaps it would be a good idea to use the stabilisation effect within Adobe Premiere Elements 2020.
This upload shows what to expect with a before and after comparison. The horizontal/vertical stabilisation is pretty much removed completely. You can discern slight blurring at those points of the clip but it is much better than the jerkiness/bouncing of the original. Also, the parts of the clip where the camera is zooming in or out are much smoother.
You lose a small amount of the edges of the clip, but nothing too extreme in this particular example.
The end result is a much more professional looking update of an old clip. Other software may produce equal or better results, I don't know, but I was pleased with the performance of PE2020, so thought I'd share them for others who might want to undertake similar 'restoration' of their old library - or for that matter new material that has imperfections.
