Shure SM7B – Audio Interface – Mic Preamp vs FetAmp – Kitarablogi.com
There are many claims on the Internet that the microphone preamps on regular audio interfaces could be too "weak" to amplify the Shure SM7B adequately. I've recorded two clips of guitar strumming with the SM7B:
The first clip uses only the mic preamp on a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB with the gain turned up to approx. 90%. The second clip runs a phantom powered Thomann FetAmp inline amp between the mic and the audio interface, with the interface's gain only running at approx. 30%.
