Among the aspiring designers with whom I frequently interact in my teaching work, there's a common misconception that design success is determined by a talent for intuitively guessing the right solution. If the designer gets it right, then success is guaranteed. It's a guessing game. I think young people are greatly confused by the phenomenon of "stars" who, without bothering, without regard for marketing, simply finding their signature style, create designs that nevertheless become commercially successful.
Essentially, a star designer sells their signature style to the client. They become something akin to a rock star and live by completely different rules than "ordinary workers" who are in the daily workflow of projects. In design, a "star" primarily generates value through the strength of their personal brand, their reputation, and their charisma. But let's face it: 99% of the market is made up of humble guys and girls who aren't exactly breaking the bank and are forced to create value in some other way. Watch the video to find out how.
