How to Connect a Power BI template to SharePoint!
Moving your Excel file to SharePoint isn’t just about connecting to Power BI or setting up automatic refreshes. It actually brings several practical, collaboration, and security advantages that make it the smarter choice for any team.
“When you move your Power BI and Excel files from one computer to another — say after downloading a SHEQXEL template — Power BI still looks for the old file path from the original computer. Since the path doesn’t exist on your new device, the link breaks.”
Here’s how to fix data source after downloading and uploading to Sharepoint:
1️⃣ Upload your Excel file to SharePoint or your company’s OneDrive.
Just drag and drop it into your chosen SharePoint folder.
2️⃣ Open the file in SharePoint, click on details for details pane to show and Copy file path.
3️⃣ In Power BI Desktop, go to Home → Transform Data → Query Editor
4️⃣ Select the data source in the query applied steps and past the path right between the two quotation marks. You will then get an error
5️⃣Click on edit, go to advance, and select Sharepoint from the drop down list. You may be required to log in to your Sharepoint.
