DIY CARBON FIBER STANCHIONS
The Tula Shop - http://tulasendlesssummer.com/shop-tula/ Some of our stanchion bases were leaking and it turned out that our stainless lifelines that we replaced a year ago probably aren’t as high quality stainless as they should be. We decided that instead if repairing and re-bedding the stanchion bases conventionally to borrow an idea that some racing boats are using as well as our friend Mike and make carbon fiber stanchions. We bed a fiberglass rod into the deck of our catamaran with a collar that a carbon tube will slip over as the stanchion. This will prevent any leaks from forming again, it will take some weight off the boat, and it will be a great experiment. Our next project will be to splice our own dyneema lifelines.
