Are your physics objects randomly falling through the floor or walls in Unreal Engine? 🤔
Don’t worry — in this video, I’ll show you the exact reason why this happens and how to fix it once and for all!

We’ll start with a simple experiment showing how an object can either bounce off the floor or clip right through it, especially at higher speeds or when dealing with very small meshes.
Then I’ll explain in detail the technical reason: Unreal Engine calculates physics in discrete steps (frames), and at high speeds the object may “skip” collision checks, causing it to pass through.

Next, I’ll walk you through the practical solutions:
✔️ Make sure the object has a proper collision mesh that’s not too small.
✔️ Set a reasonable Mass value (around 1000 works well).
✔️ Enable Continuous Collision Detection (CCD).
✔️ And most importantly: enable Substepping in Project Settings to increase collision accuracy.

I’ll also explain the best Substepping values to balance performance and physics precision, and why you shouldn’t overdo it.

Finally, you’ll see test results after applying these fixes — no more random clipping through the floor!
