The Most HATED Scientist of the Soviet Union
Trofim Lysenko is probably one of the most demonized scientists in Soviet history. He is often seen as a right hand of Stalin who helped him put thousands of scientists in GULAGs. And whose experiments on wheat led to mass famine and the deaths of millions of people. Is it entirely true? Is it true that Trofim Lysenko was an absolutely worthless biologist and a murderer? Well, the first part is probably true. The second one - not so much. Trofim Lysenko did use dirty methods in order to climb closer to the top of power and become a god in Soviet biology for 30 years. And it was indeed a monstrous blow to Soviet science. Still, it was more likely that he did so not from some innate malice, but from a lack of intelligence and education. Today let's talk about the story of the simple peasant's ascent to the heights of glory. Are you really surprised that such a story was only possible in the Soviet Union?
