In this video, I explain why a large part of sustainability strategies in Brazil never get off the ground. The problem isn't a lack of will or technology, it's a lack of basic infrastructure to support any ESG goal in practice.
I analyze the topic using logistics, waste management, energy, and sanitation to show where companies' strategies fail before they even begin.
Brazil has over 71% of companies declaring sustainable practices. But only 20% publish reports with verifiable data. This gap between discourse and execution has a concrete explanation: the models that companies copy were designed for countries with functioning infrastructure. Here, the reality is different.
The road network has 1.4 million kilometers without pavement. The real recycling rate does not exceed 8.7%. More than 28 million tons of waste go to landfills every year. And renewable energy is being wasted because the transmission network cannot handle transporting what is generated.
The video shows how each of these problems directly affects the operation of companies, increasing costs, generating the risk of greenwashing, and making carbon targets impossible to meet without real internal control.
As a concrete example, I analyze the work of Roca Brasil Cerâmica with UGREEN: how a heavy industry, which operated with petcoke and emitted above the European average, reduced its emissions by 33% between 2020 and 2024 using LCA and fuel switching, without depending on any functioning public system.
