Becoming a manager looks like the natural next step in many careers.

But sometimes it moves people away from the work they actually enjoy.

In this video, I draw on nearly two decades in corporate marketing to explore why management is not always the right path.

And why it is worth thinking through carefully before you make the move.

There are real advantages to becoming a manager:

Better compensation
More leadership responsibility
Greater visibility and influence
A clearer seat at the table

But there is also a tradeoff.

The work changes.

Instead of building, analyzing, coding, creating, or doing the hands-on work you may have been hired for, managers spend more time coordinating, supporting, planning, communicating, and leading through other people.

For some professionals, that is an energizing shift.

For others, it can feel like they accidentally left behind the work they were actually best at.

I share a few stories of professionals who moved into management, then realized they missed the individual contributor role more than they expected.

The real question is not just whether you can become a manager.

The better question is whether you would actually enjoy the work managers do every day.

This video is for professionals thinking about career growth, leadership, management, and whether the next step is actually the right step.

Especially in fields like marketing, digital business, and creative work.

If you are interested in digital marketing, AI, and online business, this channel is for thoughtful professionals who want practical lessons from real experience.

More depth, less hype.
