This is an authentic video of life at the Marsose Troops' Third Division Camp (part of the Dutch KNIL) in Aceh. A platoon of Marsose troops lived here, in neatly arranged barracks under the command of Captain Kloprogge. These Marsose troops routinely conducted combat training on the camp grounds.
In 1936, the Aceh–Dutch War officially ended. Sultan Muhammad Daud Syah of Aceh surrendered approximately 32 years ago. However, the guerrilla war waged by the Acehnese people under the leadership of the Uleebalang and the ulama continued until 1914. After that, sporadic resistance by the Acehnese people, local, village-based, continued until the Japanese invaded the Dutch East Indies in 1942.
