Most creators focus only AdSense. This limiting.
There multiple revenue streams. Each works differently. Each has place.
In this video, I cover all monetization options, how each works, realistic earnings, when makes sense, paid vs organic strategy.
ADSENSE (How It Works, Realistic Earnings, When Makes Sense):
AdSense YouTube's built-in advertising program.
YouTube puts ads your videos. Advertisers pay. YouTube shares with you (typically 45% creator, 55% YouTube).
CPM = Cost Per Mille (cost per 1,000 views)
Your CPM depends:
• Geography (US = higher than other countries)
• Topic (finance/business higher CPM than entertainment)
• Niche (competitive niches higher CPM)
Realistic earnings:
Low tier: $2-4 CPM (entertainment)
Medium tier: $5-10 CPM (education)
High tier: $15-50+ CPM (finance/business)
Example: 100,000 views with $5 CPM = $500 revenue
Example: 100,000 views with $20 CPM = $2,000 revenue
Why AdSense not enough: At 10K subscribers, might get 10K-50K views monthly. At $5 CPM = $50-250 monthly. Can't live on this.
When makes sense: Passive income on top other income streams. Not primary income.
SPONSORSHIPS (How to Get Them, What Makes Good Deal):
Brands pay you feature their product in videos. Sponsorship tiers:
• $500-1K: Smaller brands, smaller channels (10K-50K subscribers)
• $1K-5K: Mid-size brands, growing channels (50K-200K)
• $5K+: Large brands, established channels (200K+)
How get sponsorships:
Outbound: Email brands. Pitch your audience. Explain value.
Inbound: Once channel established, brands reach out.
Platforms:
• AspireIQ (connects creators and brands)
• GRIN (influencer network)
• BrandConnect (YouTube feature)
What makes good deal:
Relevant product (aligns with your niche)
Fair payment (not too low for your audience size)
Product you'd actually use (credibility)
Clear deliverables (what exactly creating)
Realistic earnings: 2-4 sponsorships monthly at $1K-3K each = $2K-12K monthly at 50K-100K subscribers.
When makes sense: As primary income for mid-tier channels. Highly scalable.
AFFILIATE MARKETING (Products You Recommend, Commissions You Earn):
You recommend product. Viewers click affiliate link. If they buy, you get commission.
Commission typical: 5-50% depending product and program.
Examples:
• Recommend video editing software: 20-30% commission
• Recommend courses: 50% commission
• Recommend tools: 10-20% commission
How start:
Join affiliate programs (Amazon Associates, CJ, ShareASale)
Or individual brand programs (software companies often have)
Include affiliate links in description
Mention relevant products in videos
Realistic earnings: At 50K subscribers, maybe 1-5 affiliate sales per month. $100-500 monthly. Not huge, but passive.
When makes sense: Supplement to other income. Passive layer on top.
DIGITAL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES (Courses, Coaching, Tools):
Most scalable monetization.
You create course/product once. Sell many times.
Examples:
• Course: "Complete YouTube Growth System" - $97-297
• Coaching: 1-on-1 strategy calls - $297-1000
• Templates: Spreadsheets, scripts - $27-97
• Community: Membership site - $29-199/month
At 50K subscribers, 1% buys course at $197 = 500 sales = $98,500 revenue.
Most sustainable long-term.
When makes sense: Once have proven audience and authority. This primary income stream.
PAID YOUTUBE ADS (When They Make Sense, ROI Calculations):
Run ads promoting your own products.
Cost: You spend money on ads. Hope they convert to product sales.
Example:
• Spend $1,000 on ads
• Get 10,000 views of product
• 2% conversion = 200 sales
• At $97 product = $19,400 revenue
• Profit = $18,400 (after ad spend)
When makes sense: Only when have product to sell with good conversion rate.
How it affects organic growth: Paid ads can actually boost organic algorithm recommendations because YouTube sees engagement and activity.
PAID VS ORGANIC GROWTH DISTINCTION:
Organic growth: Natural algorithm recommendations. No paid ads.
Paid growth: Use paid ads (YouTube ads, Facebook ads, TikTok ads) drive traffic to your content.
Both have place:
Early stage (0-50K): Focus organic. Build authentic audience. Don't spend money you don't have.
Growth stage (50K-200K): Can use some paid ads test products. But still focus organic as primary.
Scale stage (200K+): Use paid ads strategically to scale products. Have revenue to reinvest.
KEY INSIGHT:
Don't rely single revenue stream. Diversify.
YouTube channel with multiple income:
• AdSense: $500/month (passive)
• Sponsorships: $3K/month (active)
• Affiliates: $300/month (passive)
• Course sales: $5K/month (leverage)
• Coaching: $2K/month (high-ticket)
Total: $10.8K/month from diversified sources.
If any single source fails, you survive.
THE FULL MONETIZATION FUNNEL:
Views → Subscribers → Email list → Product → Customer
This where real money. Not views. Not subscribers.
CUSTOMERS with paying relationship.
Build this funnel and monetization becomes stable, scalable, sustainable.
