How to Remove Cortana from Windows 10
This Question came from one of our Subscribers in the Discussion of the Video of How to Restore the Quick Launch ToolBar. Therefor, this How To Video will show 2 ways on 4 different Computers. There's a Third way, we might do in another Video which requires taking Ownership of the Directory and then granting Permissions. The action can be defined as changing Ownership from Trusted Installer to current User. And then Granting Permissions to said User to then delete the Folder.
This first solution has been around now that Cortana is a separate app. Requires using PowerShell. However, remnants may still exist in Registry. But this should neuter the pest.
1.) Right click Start Menu. Select PowerShell (Admin).
2.) Type the command or Copy and paste:
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.549981C3F5F10 | Remove-AppxPackage
4.) Press Enter
Voila! Be careful. And backup Your Data before proceeding. Travel at Your own risk!
The next option is a balancing act and requires Us to rename the Cortana folder. We place a 1 in the folder name. We'll have two Windows open. Both the app folder Windows \ SystemApps and the Task Manager, Task List, more Details, Processes, Background Processes. We're looking for either Cortana or Search. We have to End Task while Renaming the Cortana folder to Microsoft.Windows.1Cortana_cw5n1h2txyz. By removing the 1, we can restore Cortana if we choose to or so desire. Be neutering Cortana we may lose Search. Such as it is.
