In this lesson of our Laravel 13 Full Course, we are opening up the hood of the framework to explore Default Middleware.

When you install a fresh Laravel 13 application, there are dozens of out-of-the-box middleware layers protecting your app automatically. These default gatekeepers handle tasks like stripping out accidental whitespace from form fields (TrimStrings), converting empty strings to null records (ConvertEmptyStringsToNull), encrypting cookies (EncryptCookies), and maintaining state across pages (StartSession).

Because Laravel 13 utilizes a streamlined framework layout, these defaults are hidden away from your main app directory. In this tutorial, you will discover exactly where these core stacks live in the framework's architecture. Most importantly, you will learn the modern syntax to safely modify, append, or completely disable these built-in global defaults using the withMiddleware() closure inside your bootstrap/app.php configuration file.
