More than two decades ago, Christopher and Shefali left their careers in Delhi and
moved to Tirthan Valley in Himachal Pradesh — long before "boutique stay,"
"homestay," or "slow travel" meant anything in India. What began with canvas tents
and a small school room slowly became the Himalayan Trout House: a home built piece
by piece from salvaged flood-wood, mud, stone, and local hands.
In this first episode of Terraveller: Stays, we sit down with them to talk about
building with what the valley gives you rather than extracting from it, Shefali's
art on wood and old gharat mills, Christopher's decades of work bringing fly angling
to an Indian audience, and how local fishermen who once caught everything became the
river's protectors. It's a conversation about staying somewhere long enough to truly
understand it — and then building something that belongs there.
This is not a hotel. As they put it, it's an extended home.
