Welcome to one of the Philippines’ most iconic natural wonders — the Chocolate Hills on the island of Bohol! In this video, we take you on a full adventure from the top of the official viewing platform all the way to an adrenaline-pumping zipline bicycle ride, and finally to a close encounter with one of the rarest primates on Earth: the tarsier.
We start our visit at the Chocolate Hills Viewing Deck, where over 1,200 cone-shaped hills stretch across more than 50 square kilometers. Even though it’s raining, the contrast with the landscape still creates a spectacular view. From this government-run platform, we’re surrounded by these unique geological formations, and there’s even a line of people waiting to capture the perfect photo with the iconic backdrop.
To reach the top, we take a shuttle bus and climb the steps through a busy yet organized tourist setup, complete with a restaurant, information point, and souvenir stalls. Once at the top, we share some local legends about the formation of the hills — from giants battling to ancient tears falling — but the real explanation lies in uplifted coral reef formations shaped by rain and wind over thousands of years.
After soaking in the views, we head down the hill to try something extreme — the bicycle zipline, suspended 150 feet above the ground! Despite the rain, we strap in with helmets and safety gear for a terrifying (yet unforgettable) ride through the misty air, pedaling over a vast jungle canopy with the Chocolate Hills in the background. It’s not for the faint of heart — and especially not for those afraid of heights like me!
Our adventure doesn’t stop there. We end the day by visiting the Philippine tarsier sanctuary, where we quietly observe these tiny, wide-eyed nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat. We take care to keep noise levels low, knowing how sensitive they are to stress. It’s an awe-inspiring moment to see these fascinating animals up close in the peaceful jungle.
