A retcon is a retroactive change to a previously written story that reestablishes the rules from that moment on, adapting them to new needs.
Toriyama was the king of retcons. Anyone who read Dragon Ball at least once as an adult certainly knows this. Even Son Goku's Saiyan origins came later because he hadn't even thought about it in the first place.
Like it or not, Dragon Ball is made up of a ton of retcons in progress, and that's so beautiful because if you know how to hide them as well as Toriyama did—who, for me, in his simplicity, remains not only a brilliant artist but also a brilliant writer—you only enrich your story.
Everything I talk about retcons in this column is a waste of time. I'm telling you about them because many people write to me saying they didn't know about them, since I'm new to YouTube and mine is a NEW community. And because, like me, they find them funny.
