Many viewers have asked if it's possible to connect a WD My Cloud directly to a computer using an ethernet network cable. The answer is yes. On Windows and other operating systems you'll need to set static IPs on both the computer and the WD My Cloud (some computers may also need a special cross over cable). Macs are a little easier in that the Mac will assign itself an address to talk to the My Cloud.
This set up is ideal if you are mainly going to access the My Cloud over a wireless network and your main computer is far away from your router or access point. This will let you load in data much faster initially, and once the transfer is done you can relocate the My Cloud to your router or wireless access point.
It won't provide any speed benefit for those already connecting to the My Cloud via ethernet.
