THE STAGES OF THE IRON AND STEEL MANUFACTURING PROCESS IN A MODERN FACTORY
Hello Production Engineering friends,
Iron and steel are essential materials in modern life. They are the backbone of infrastructure and technology used in almost every aspect of our daily lives, from building construction and appliances to automotive applications, to electronics and transportation.
Furthermore, an interesting fact about iron and steel is that they are 100% recyclable and are the most recycled materials on the planet. More than 70% of global steel is recycled and reused without compromising its quality and durability. This recycling can be done for all types of iron and steel, even many rusted steels made 150 years ago can still be recycled and used in new products and equipment.
Iron and steel are two materials derived from the same material: metal. However, steel is iron with a higher carbon content, between 0.2% and 2.1%. The carbon content in steel determines its properties. Low-carbon steel has properties similar to pure iron: it's malleable and malleable. High-carbon steel is harder and stronger, but also more brittle. In this video, production engineering will take you through the iron and steel manufacturing process in a modern factory.
