When it comes to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), it seems drivers tend to either love it or hate it. With “stepless” gear ratios, the CVT doesn’t shift. Instead, it delivers a smooth progression through the range of speeds. For those purists who love the sound and feel of upshifting and downshifting, a CVT isn’t going to be their cup of tea.
