Campo Imperatore in a snowless winter | Yamaha XTZ 750 Super Ténéré
I travel to the splendid Campo Imperatore plateau with my Yamaha Super Tenere to witness how climate change is significantly impacting the snowfall on our mountains. It's been very hot and rainy this winter. In February 2024, there were only traces of snow, despite the plateau being located at about 1,600 meters, at the foot of the Gran Sasso. The charm remains incredible, decidedly magnetic, and the complete absence of tourists makes the connection with these mountains even more intimate. An experience that is in many ways unique (though repeatable) and helps us understand once again how small and dependent we are on the nature that surrounds us.
The correct name of the anthropologist who first described Campo Imperatore as "Little Tibet" is Fosco Maraini. I mistakenly wrote Mariani in a video caption.
