The joint declaration of the foreign ministers of Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine on their shared national heritage is great and joyful news. Of course, these are just words and declarations – but they break down the disastrous legacy of our past. It's a denial of the vile stereotype from Olga Tokarczuk's book and from left-liberal journalism, which cultivates anti-Polish nationalism: the stereotype of Polish colonization and conquest. No, we didn't conquer anyone – we created a federation, which the nobility of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, and Livonia joined because they wanted to enjoy the same freedom as the Polish nobility.
Something can be built on the debunking of this history. Even something potentially magnificent and powerful. If you don't believe it, see how the Russian media boiled with rage at the news. And the Polish ones - they are silent...
