After Effects ZIGZAG & THE REPEATER | Adobe Tutorial
Hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of 7 Minute AE Tutorials where you learn tips, tricks, and shortcuts in 7 minutes or less. No BS, just AE!
Over the past few years, some of my tutorials have become increasingly difficult and trying to get them down to 7 minutes is not only challenging for me, but also for you. I want you to get the most out of these tutorials, so I’ve added playlists for beginner, intermediate, and advanced users. These are based on the type and amount of information that’s included in the tutorial, as opposed to a hierarchical lesson plan, so please check them all out in case I cover something you may not be familiar with. I’ll balance these so there are regular updates for each category.
The beginner section includes things related to shape layers, how to create presets and transitions, and basic AE as well as Illustrator information.
Intermediate videos include use of scripts and expressions as well as topics that require more than basic knowledge of AE, so they’re more difficult to follow if you don’t have a solid foundation in AE.
The advanced videos require you to know where things are and what things do inside of AE. If you’re not advanced, chances are you’ll be pausing and rewatching these videos. Topics include character rigging and animation, advanced design, and animations that require familiarity with scripts and expressions.
I always try to create tutorials that include little known tricks, so even if you’re advanced you may get something out of the beginner or intermediate videos. And if you’re more of a beginner or only have intermediate experience with AE, give some of the advanced lessons a shot and push yourself to learn these advanced techniques.
In this episode, I’m going to show you how to create this bouncing shape layer sign using Zig Zag and the Repeater. Zig Zag is a shape layer attribute that’s not used very much, which is why I wanted to go over it. This animation uses just one shape layer and a text layer. As with other shape layer animations, you can save this as a preset, and I'll remind you how to do just that.
Shape Layers are very powerful. The possibilities of what you can create are virtually endless. Attributes, such as Zig Zag, the Repeater, Pucker and Bloat, and Trim Paths, give shape layers more versatility, which in turn will help make your designs more creative.
