What should’ve been a simple translucent shell swap on my SEGA Dreamcast turned into a full-on troubleshooting session.
In this video, I walk through the case swap process using a replacement translucent shell and break down two unexpected issues I ran into:
A BITFUNX Dreamcast VGA-to-HDMI adapter not powering on due to fitment tolerances
A GDEMU with a 3D-printed SD mount being pulled slightly out of alignment, preventing solid contact with the 32-pin motherboard connector
This video shows the decasing and reassembly process through a time-lapse and explains how small tolerance differences in aftermarket shells can impact accessories and mods.
If you’re planning a Dreamcast shell swap—especially if you’re running a GDEMU or HDMI adapter—this is what to watch out for.
