Governor Wes Moore announces bust of crime ring
Today, together with federal law enforcement and our partners in Baltimore City, we're announcing the bust of a crime ring that touched nearly every jurisdiction in the state in a recent series of arrests. More than 50 people were arrested and more than 50 guns were recovered from the sweep.
The actions we have taken will make Maryland safer, from the Western Mountains to the Eastern Shore to Baltimore City and everywhere in between.
Together, we are breaking the fever of crime in Maryland.
In our first year in office, we broke the back of 300+ homicides every year in Baltimore City. In our second year in office, we are on pace to continue the trend of fewer than 300 homicides in Baltimore City again in 2024.
Baltimore is seeing one of the most precipitous drops in violent crime of any city in the country.
That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because we are moving in partnership.
This team is making real progress. But I want to be clear: Our work is not over.
We will continue to stay coordinated, we will continue to stay vigilant, and we will continue to stay active in our work to ensure public safety.
That work will be rooted in partnership with the people in this room, and with everyone in our communities.
