The mathematical quantities that are used to describe the motion of objects can be divided into two categories. These are the Scalar Quantity and Vector Quantity.
Scalar Quantity
Any physical quantity that can be identified by
1. A number that tells the magnitude of the quantity
2. An appropriate unit.
are called scalars.
Scalar quantities can be added, subtracted, multiplied, and divided by common algebraic laws.
Such examples are distance, mass, temperature, energy, and many more.
On the other hand,
Vector Quantity
Any physical quantity that can be identified by
1. A number that tells the magnitude of the quantity
2. An appropriate unit.
3. A specific direction.
are called vectors.
