The adrenal glands, located above the kidneys, have an outer region called the cortex. This cortex produces aldosterone, which regulates sodium reabsorption in the kidneys, and glucocorticoids, such as cortisol, which raises blood glucose levels and acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant.
