The Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung (WTS) is probably a familiar name to anyone interested in the military and model maker in this country. It has existed since it was founded in 1961/62 as the "Collection for Weapons and Design Studies" at the Bundeswehr's Test Site 91 in Meppen/Emsland.
The public exhibition has been at its current location in Koblenz since 1982, where it belongs to the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) (previously BWB).
On just over 7000 m², the WTS in Koblenz shows a collection of around 2500 technical, partly unique military technology exhibits from Germany and abroad, compiled over almost half a century. The focus here is on army technology, but there are also exhibits from the Air Force and Navy.
The WTS is therefore one of the largest collections in Europe.
In addition to hand weapons and ammunition, there are numerous prototypes of vehicles and large equipment from the First World War to the present day.
After a long period of closure, the WTS has been open again since mid-2023 and is open to the public.
