Bones Not Deleting in Blender? 🦴
Here’s a Simple Fix That Saved Me Hours.
While fixing a character rig downloaded from Epic Games Fab (UE5-compatible), I ran into a frustrating issue —
bones just wouldn’t delete in Edit Mode. No errors. No warnings. Just… stuck.
Turns out, this happens when the rig is still linked to its original source data (you’ll often see bone names with a colon, like root:ik_hand_gun).
After some digging and trial-and-error, I found a simple fix — and decided to share it so others don’t get stuck like I did.
✅ Simple Steps to Fix It in Blender
Switch to Object Mode
Select the Armature (root object)
Go to Object → Relations → Make Local → All
Enter Edit Mode and delete the bone normally
That’s it. No re-importing. No rebuilding the rig.
If you’re working with UE5 assets and Blender, this small step can save you a lot of debugging time.
