After numerous trial and errors I finally have my flow to create HDR content out of Davinci Resolve 14 Studio.
Content is Slog-3 from Sony FS7II processed and color graded in Davinci Resolve with Atomos Inferno Monitor.
Project Settings in Davinci Resolve:
"Color Management" - "Color Science" = "Davinici Resolve YRGB Color Managed"
Output Color Space: "Rec.2100 ST2084" or "Rec.2100 HLG"
Export with Quick Time and DNxHR 444 10-Bit Codec.
This test video of 0:45 seconds will be around 10 GB file size to upload. Finally Youtube recognizes it as HDR and plays it perfectly on my Sony TV or Sony HDR Xperia XZ Premium Smartphone. On a TV you sometimes have to switch manually to HDR (HLG) so that it will play correctly.
Now the colors of this Test Video are still a bit too intense - some more work here in Resolve - but now that the flow is clear I can put more focus on the color grading. I hope it helps others as well, because everyone talks about HDR, but no one could show and explain it properly so far, how to export it in a working format.
Now we still wait for H.265 Export possibility.
Edius 9.0 also supports HDR - even a bit easier in the export (see my other Test Video), however Color Grading in Davinci Resolve is just unbeatable.
