Every sentence has a subject and a predicate.
The subject tells us whom or what the sentence is about. The subject word can be a proper noun, a common noun or a pronoun.
The predicate tells us what the subject is or does. Every predicate has a verb.
Examples: Parul loves to knit.
The audience clapped after the song was over.
I plucked wild berries to make home-made jam.
In some sentences, the subject does not come at the beginning but at the end of a sentence.
Example: From the thicket, appeared a deer.
In imperative sentences, the subject is always you. However, the subject is understood rather than expressed.
Example: Sit down. (Here the subject you is understood.)
In exclamatory sentences, the subject can be placed towards the end.
Example: How clear the water is!
In interrogative sentences too, the subject does not come at the beginning.
Example: Do you know the man?
