Southern Shores Resilient Coastal Communities Program
The Town of Southern Shores is participating in the North Carolina Resilient Coastal Communities Program (RCCP), a statewide initiative designed to help coastal communities prepare for flooding, storms, erosion, sea level rise, and other climate-related challenges.
Through the RCCP, Southern Shores is working with coastal engineers, planners, local stakeholders, and residents to better understand community vulnerabilities and identify practical, long-term solutions that strengthen resilience and protect the Town’s neighborhoods, infrastructure, natural resources, and coastal character.
The program includes:
• Assessing local risks and vulnerabilities
• Identifying areas impacted by flooding, drainage, and erosion
• Gathering community and stakeholder input
• Developing a resilience strategy and project portfolio
• Preparing priority projects for future engineering, design, and implementation.
