Each of us can certainly notice envy in ourselves, because it is a satanic sin and a characteristic of every person. The degree to which it manifests itself varies. The strength of this envy varies. And we can pay attention to how it manifests itself. It manifests itself in spontaneous ill will toward another person. If a person suddenly begins to harbor ill feelings toward someone, often without even knowing that person. For example, they don't know them personally. That is, they can't say anything about them because they don't know them personally. But they feel ill will. What is the cause? Always envy. Envy of success, envy of beauty, envy of money, and anything else. And a person experiences pleasure only when they destroy what they are famous for or noticeable for. Or when that person is harmed in some way. Everyone experiences joy and voluptuousness from something bad happening to someone. Where do such feelings come from? Only from envy. As long as a person is possessed by envy, even to a small degree, it goes without saying that any connection with God or repentance is out of the question. A person can go to church all their life, stand in church from morning until night, but as long as envy lingers within them, the Lord cannot touch them; it is completely out of the question. Although a person may be under the complete illusion that they are deeply religious. The Jews crucified Christ solely because of envy. We are learned, we are wise, we know the Holy Scriptures, and yet the people come to Him. From us to Him. We have experienced envy. They spouted all sorts of lies: "He said this, He said that." That's where any slander immediately sprang from, because it's not for nothing that they say, "Where there's a man, there's a charge." It's not at all difficult to find a special charge for someone, to put them away somewhere, to somehow ruin their life.
