Velveeta antlers are a special stage of deer antler growth, when they are still soft and covered with velvety skin. During this period, the antlers are permeated with blood vessels and nerves, allowing them to grow faster than almost any other bone in the animal kingdom. Once growth is complete, the blood supply ceases, the tissue dries out, and deer begin to scrape it off on trees. Until this point, such antlers can be cut and used as ingredients or supplements. A fascinating example of how nature and nutrition are closely intertwined.
