Abandoned radar in the Arctic Part 2
Probably pointless to write a report on the technical part of the object - all the same, a colleague of the pioneer I vryatli pereplyunu, and repeat the same and not interesting. Therefore, I will limit myself to general impressions of the climbing and describing what is in the pictures. In the distant 2007, when I broke through the satellite images of Google, I found 3 identical buildings, with a circle on the roof, one on the Rybachiy Peninsula, and two others near Vyborg and near Kotlas. The buildings were not signed in any way, but they were clearly the remnants of some kind of antenna system, at first I took the circle for the foundation of a huge ball-RPU. But what was the object remained a mystery. And in 2008 a group of comrades drove into the territory where once one of these mysterious objects was located - a position on the peninsula of Rybachy, the northernmost point of the Kola Peninsula. The object was sawing at all to metal, but even the equipment that survived was partially enthralled. From the remains of the documents it became clear that before us radar P-70 (5N117) or "Lena-M".
The antennas were no longer there for this passing through the building and after making a few photos we left home. It probably took a year or two, when a couple of couples who traveled the Russian North on boats by chance did not see the photo of this radar station, only the antenna was intact, and next to it was the very little known town of Amderma ... Since then, I got the idea by all means visit it ...
Years went by, but there were few real ways to get to the end of the world, the plane flew 1 time in 2 weeks, that is, it was necessary to spend half of the vacation there and not sleep, the variants flew in, looked-flew away, and considered renting a cross-country vehicle from Vorkuta, and renting a light aircraft or a helicopter in a fold, but everything did not add up, or cost like this radar. In 2013 there was a chance, a company was found that drives tourists and fishermen to hunting and fishing in those parts, we contacted them, told about our interest, and they helped us get passes and buy tickets (it turns out there is a flight and helicopter, about the helicopter only a few people know except local)
And in August 2013, 3 people passed their luggage and ammunition at the airport and decided to have a bite before the long journey, 2 minutes of falling and "landing on your flight is over" - the dream was not to come true. The plane left for Arkhangelsk without us. Even if we flew on another flight - board in Amderma left early in the morning and we did not have time for it. Passed in 2014 and 2015, and the other two participants were no longer eager to fly devils to the shore of the Kara Sea, and I? but I wanted to. And then, having broken off plans in the spring of this year, several people sent an application for a pass to the border zone, we decided not to contact the firm and try to do everything ourselves. The passes came in time, but with the tickets there was a complete asshole, despite the fact that the end of the world there is a huge flow of passengers and therefrom, local people fly to their relatives and rest to the south, tourists, fishermen and hunters fly there. The necessary ticket was not and was not foreseen, besides the airline owner of the helicopter flatly refused to sell the ticket to private traders not through the cashier in Naryanmar. But somehow luck has smiled to me, the necessary ticket has been taken, alas only one, the second person on this date could not fly any more.
I throw off my backpack and just look at the frozen creature of the human mind in the rays of the setting sun. The radar mirror is assembled from silumin tubes and planted on a prefabricated steel frame, which already rotates on the rinks. Years of inactivity, frost, snow, wind and sea water spray severely destroyed the design of the radar mirror. From the sea comes a gust of wind, it penetrates into thousands of tubes of radar cloth, forcing them to hum and vibrate - Lena starts her song, a wild mixture of Organ and Vargan. I consider it a greeting, I throw off my backpack, turn on the flashlight and go inside ...
We wish you a pleasant viewing!
