Hello everyone, my name is Tim and I am one of the product specialists here at SpyCentre Security. Thee Spy Gear Superstore. And I'm here to talk to you guys about Body Worn Hidden Cameras.
A lot of people ask us what is a body-worn camera and what does it do differently than say just a normal hidden camera? Well, a body-worn camera is a small wearable camera that records both video and audio, they are disguised and designed to blend into your outfit and what you would normally carry around with you, such as a Pen, USB flash drive, Glasses, Watch, etc inside of these are hidden cameras that can record with a press of a button.
What makes body-worn cameras so great is the fact that you can start and stop a recording covertly without attracting a whole lot of attention. Generally speaking, there aren't any flashing lights or beeping noises to give you away when you start a recording.
Another common question we get is how to choose a body-worn camera. My answer is always this; first, we need to know what the features of body-worn recorders are: Battery Life, Storage Time; Resolution; Time & Date Stamping, Field of View, what object is the camera hidden in, and of course budget. So the first thing you need to ask yourself is: How long do I need to record for at a time before I can recharge the battery or clear the memory on the device?
Most body-worn cameras have anywhere from 50 minutes up to 120 minutes of run time, with some being able to go much longer. So figuring out how long you actually need it for in a single-use will narrow down your options greatly.
Next, we have a resolution; most things that we offer are high definition. However, some items still only record in standard resolution. As an example, if you're trying to read text, only our 2K resolution recorders have that capability. The other records we sell simply do not have the resolution needed. You could just be just trying to get a general view and detail isn't as important. Another thing to consider is the field of view that the camera records in.
Most manufacturers do not list their camera's viewing angle in the spec sheets, so the only real way to tell most of the time is by watching a demo video of the camera. Now, I want you guys to take a look at these two recorders side by side, they are position in the same spot however one is recording a much clearer image and is capturing a wider field of view than the one next to it which records in a standard resolution and has a narrow field of view.
Onto Time & Date stamping; it simply stamps the date and time onto the image as it's recording. This can be crucially important depending on your use. If you're not using it in any sort of Court or legal setting then you can mostly ignore this feature. Time & Date stamping is a fairly common feature on most recorders but if you need it then it's something you should double-check before making a purchase.
Finally, we have a design, picking the right design is important if you're trying to stay undetected. So it's important to pick something that you would naturally carry around with you on a day-to-day basis such as a key fob, pen, or glasses.
I would always recommend picking up one of these devices ahead of time, say a week or two in advance just to give you enough time to practice starting and stopping the recording. But more importantly aiming the camera, after a few times practicing you will get the hang of the device on how to aim it to capture exactly what you are looking for.
Confused? I don't blame you, there are a lot of options on the market today and most spy shops out there don't make things any easier by not providing guides on how to use the item or videos to demonstrate the image quality and field of view.
Luckily you're watching this video which means you're in good hands, if you have a question do not hesitate to reach out to us we can help guide you to the perfect product to fit your needs. Feel free to take advantage of the Compare tool located on our website to quickly and easily tell the differences between the items. And don't forget to watch our demonstration videos on each...
