In this video, we're going to cover how to place a talpirid mole trap. This trap is one of 12 non-preferred mole traps covered within the book. The major advantages and disadvantages are covered in detail within the book. One of the trap's biggest advantages is that it's set by foot accommodating those with limited arm/hand strength. Its disadvantage is that the setting handle is off-balanced which requires balance and dexterity to set. When you have hard ground sometimes it helps to have a tool to loosen the ground just a little bit for the jaws of the trap. The trap is placed on a nice straight mole tunnel. In the center, you'll push that tunnel down a little bit right underneath the trigger. Set this trap by stepping down on it. You will notice two silver bolts on each side of the trap. Those bolts should align with the mole tunnel. I like to use my heel to push a little bit of dirt down on either side of the trap in the tunnel. That will force the mole to push a little bit more dirt through the trap and help trigger the trap. That's how you set a talpirid mole trap.
