The Truth About Shooting for D1 or Bust
I grew up with a “D1 or bust” mentality, but looking back now, I’m not sure it was the right choice. With five family members before me playing D1, I thought it was my destiny, but the reality didn’t match my expectations. I played at the D1 level, but I never touched the court — I just wasn’t good enough. The struggle was real, and the uphill battle was tough every step of the way. Should I have considered D3 or the best fit for me? Maybe. My advice to players today is this: find the right fit. Don’t get hung up on whether it’s D1, D2, or D3. Trust me, your experience will be better if you choose based on what’s right for you, not the number behind the D.
